ACTION, INTERACTION & CO-OPERATION IN HYPNOTIZATION
For hypnosis to take place in a consultation room there must be consent and the willingness to participate. The hypnotist is not a magician who can wave her wand and create hypnosis instantly without the prior consent of her client. Before a formal session starts, the hypnotist asks the client, “Would you like to do hypnosis with me?” Only if the client agrees does the hypnotist proceed.
Many people wonder how hypnosis works. They experience hypnosis and are amazed by it, yet they are perplexed as to how it happens. It must be emphasized that the hypnotist does not perform any magic. She acts as a facilitator and guides the client to harness the power of his mind so that he can remove mental or emotional blockages and reprogram his mind for mental and emotional wellbeing and for success.
Let me give you another example:Take a golfer who is playing in a foursome. The first three players hit the ball right down the middle of the fairway 250 yards deep. The fourth and final player steps up and then dribbles the ball about 100 feet off the tee. He looks up and says, “I knew that would happen”. That is a self fulfilling prophecy. He has fulfilled his expectations by changing his swing just enough to dribble it off the tee. He has visualized failure.
On the other hand, a different foursome with the same scenario for the first three players, only the fourth player visualizes hitting the ball straight down the middle just a little further than the rest of his group. He steps up to the tee and “wham” swings perfectly, just as he thought he would. He has visualized success and has succeeded.
This idea is summed up by Earl Nightingale, the late Dean of Personal Development who was fond of saying, “You are what you think about.” We become exactly what we visualize, or image ourselves to be. If we image ourselves as poor we will be poor whereas if we image ourselves as having abundance we will have abundance. We tend to go in the direction we allow our minds to take us.
Our subconscious takes us in the direction of our dominant thoughts or visualizations. For example, if we constantly think about being “overweight” our computer subconscious mind steers us in the direction of “being overweight”. If we think about the lack of money or financial success we will continue to lack money and financial success.
But we can change this by changing the way we think habitually. So to gain our desired body image we must first visualize ourselves at the weight we want to obtain. If we want to have financial success we need to visualize ourselves achieving the success we desire. But this can’t be done using willpower alone but rather we must use the imagination. We need to use our powers of visualization or self hypnosis.
Clients need to be coached by a professional hypnotist about the correct way to harness their powers of visualization. The hypnotist teaches the client how to achieve a very relaxed physical and mental state. Then positive suggestions are given to help them visualize the positive changes they want to manifest in their lives. These suggestions can help the client to change his habitual ways of thinking and quick changes can be seen when the new beliefs have been installed in the subconscious.
Hypnosis can be a powerful shortcut to success. By using the power of the subconscious mind a person can make rapid improvements in any area of their life. The professional hypnotist can help a person “reprogram” their subconscious minds in a more desirable direction, helping them to live the life of their dreams.
