The Key to Happiness! How to be Happy Everyday.

The following article was written by Fauziah Shah.

Are you happy now? Were you happy yesterday? What about tomorrow? Do you want to be happy tomorrow? The choice to be happy or not lies with you. You can decide to be happy or you can decide to let outside factors affect your mental and emotional state.

So is life worth living? Are you having fun each day? What would it take for you to be happy always?

Do you look forward to each new day? Do you wait eagerly to experience the adventure that unfolds each new day? Are you grateful as you welcome each morning? Are you grateful for the opportunity to greet each new day, to be able to decide to be happy each day, and to go out there and live your life the way you desire? Or is life for you just a daily routine?

All of us can be happy if we decide to be happy. Things are always going to happen around us, and we have to decide if we are going to allow external factors to influence how we think or feel. For example, we can be happy and grateful for being alive and healthy even if the property market were to crash. Even if we are directly affected by such an event, we can decide not to let it affect the way we feel about life itself. We can still appreciate the fact that we are still alive and healthy and able to think what we should do next to alleviate the situation.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to wake up in the morning feeling grateful for the opportunity to breathe, for the opportunity to be able to see, to hear, to feel, to sense and to appreciate all of life? Wouldn't it be terrific to know that we can have all of that, experience all of that and be happy about the fact that we have choices, that we can choose to be happy if we want to or even otherwise?

This means we have choices. We decide if we want to be happy or not. We have free will. We do not have to live our life according to somone else's rules. Many of us live our lives by doing what we are expected by society to do, and most times we seem to be living a life that was dictated by our environment which includes parents, teachers, government, and spiritual teachings. The presscribed formula for success is to study hard, get into a good college, get a good job, earn a good salary, save money, settle down with a good spouse and raise our children, put off what we wish to do till we have fulfilled our obligations and when all that is done, if we are lucky enough, we get to enjoy life during our twilight years. All this sounds vaguely familiar, doesn't it?

If this is what you have always wanted, then it is fine. However in many cases, people find themselves trapped in this lifestyle. They get so caught up with the day to day life that they forget to enjoy life. They are so busy struggling to make ends meet that life just passes them by and when the twilight years come, they find that they are actually miserable on the inside. It is then that they realize that this is not what they had actually wanted, that this is not the life that they would have loved to live. By then they begin to think that it it too late to change and just decide to continue with this day to day drudgery. Does this again sound vaguely familiar?

If it is, then take it as a wake up call. I mean it! Hello, just WAKE UP! The most important thing is that we should be happy. If we are doing things just to make ends meet, and if we're not enjoying whatever we're doing, it's time to stop doing it! Yes, this can be a life changing decision! It can also be a liberating decision, as many people are trapped in their current lifestyle. And when they can finally break free from the self imposed shackles, they actually will feel a heavy load off their shoulders and chest. It is as if they can start breathing again.

Waking up and taking steps to rise above the situation and to set themselves free can be very inspiring to many people. This usually would give them hope of a better and brighter future. This is because in most cases, this decision is a mental decision, a decision to start believing and to start appreciating themselves enough to want to make that necessary change to improve their lives according to their needs, wants and desires. What an individual does when this shift in mental perspective happens will vary according to his or her emotional inclination. For instance a person who suddenly realizes that his family's interests are important may even turn down the opportunity to go bowling with his boss so that he can spend more time with his family. It's all about the choices that we make and whether the choices make us happy.

So ask yourself: Am I happy? Is my life worth living? Do you feel relaxed each day and are you having fun? This is something that many people today find hard to understand. They have toiled all their lives to make ends meet that they have forgotten how to have fun. They think that to have fun, they would need to take a break from work and go away for a holiday. They don't realize that if they were doing what they were happy doing, they would be having fun even while they were at work. Work would then be fun and they would be happy working!

So are you happy? Are you happy doing whatever you are doing? Are you happy with your job? And most importantly are you happy with your life? Are there things you would enjoy doing but you have put them off for one reason or another? If this is the case, then stop for a while and reflect about your life. See what is right about your life that you are not getting and what is so wrong about your life that you are perpetuating. And listen to your body when you make a decision about your life. Do you feel weighed down or do you feel uplifted? If you feel weighed down, then it's time to take stock of what you are doing that is not in alignment with what you really like. You deserve to be happy so ask yourself: What is it that I really want to do in my life? Who do I want to be? Do some soul searching and stop being in denial. And as you discover yourself, be passionate about what you love doing. This way you can be happy always! And that's the whole point about living- to experience the JOY of living. Be the person you want to be right now and start enjoying life right now. This is the key to happiness.
